Do Beautiful Things Need a Reason?
There is a strange habit many of us learn without ever noticing.
We become remarkably good at justifying beautiful things.
Flowers?
Only if someone is coming over.
The good plates?
Save them for guests.
Silk?
Perhaps another day.
That bottle of wine?
A special occasion.
Somewhere along the way, beauty quietly became something we had to earn.
As if ordinary Tuesdays hadn't tried hard enough.
As if we ourselves weren't reason enough.
It's curious how easily we believe there will always be another dinner.
Another celebration.
Another version of us with more time.
More certainty.
More confidence.
But life has a gentle way of ignoring our plans.
Sometimes the special occasion quietly passes while the beautiful plates are still waiting in the cupboard.
Perhaps that's why the smallest acts often feel surprisingly rebellious.
Opening the bottle.
Wearing linen for breakfast.
Buying cherries because they looked beautiful, not because they were on the shopping list.
Walking the longer way home simply because the evening deserved a few more minutes.
None of these decisions change a life.
But they often change a day.
And days, after all, are what life is made of.
Maybe beauty was never supposed to be a reward.
Maybe it was always meant to be company.
Not something reserved for milestones.
But something that gently walks beside us while nothing particularly important is happening.
Perhaps we don't need more special occasions.
Perhaps we simply need fewer excuses for beautiful things.
A Little Reminder
Don't wait for the day to become special. Sometimes it only needs your decision.
